About

Hi, I’m Maddy. I started Tide and Terrain to document my experiences in nature. I have a background in wildlife research and earned my master’s degree studying methods to monitor southern sea otters in salt marshes. After grad school, I moved into the community engagement and education field, and found a true passion in helping others connect with the natural world around them.

Through my career track, hobbies, and lived experiences, I’ve come to learn that we are a part of our ecosystems, not just spectators or consumers of it. I hope to educate and inspire others along this journey.

Our Practices

We believe that there must be action behind our principles. These are our practices:

  • We acknowledge that we recreate and reside on unceded indigenous lands. We put active effort into supporting our local indigenous organizations through monthly recurring land taxes (donations), regular volunteer work , and supporting indigenous owned businesses. We will continue to learn and support.
  • We practice the honorable harvest.
  • We believe that community is the core of everything – we do our best to foster an inclusive environment for all to participate in and enjoy nature.
  • We stand with Palestine, Congo, Sudan, and all people oppressed under colonialism. We do our best to support the BDS movement and contribute to mutual aid.
  • We do not use generative AI to generate blog posts, design this website, or create content.
